Husband's Perspective - 06/13/10 – The Second Shot – Take Two!

After yesterday’s fiasco, I took a little more time on the prep for today’s Menopur shot. As the shot clock ticked out on Lakers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, the time on Wifey’s shot clock didn’t seem quite as daunting.

I set out all of the meds, needles, etc as I did yesterday, but today I removed the second needle from the packaging first, then popped the caps on the vials, then opened the Q-cap and threw out the paper cover but not the plastic tray. With everything lined up nicely, the transition from vial to vial and to final syringe was a lot smoother.

Wifey was a lot more tense for the shot tonight, expecting it to hurt as much as yesterday. But I took a different angle for the shot, kneeling beside her rather than looming over her, and it seemed to help. She hid her head under one of the sofa cushions, and the shot was over before she really noticed. I was able to depress the plunger on the syringe a lot more easily, and felt more comfortable working at the new angle. This one bled a little as I removed the syringe, but luckily I was ready with cotton wool ball and surgical tape.  I felt a little nervous that I hadn’t dropped anything during the procedure, which might be a bad omen, so I dropped my pants at the end to appease the fertility spirits ;-)
